The US could ban Chinese OLED BOE panels after a major International Trade Commission (ITC) decision in a trade secrets dispute with Samsung. The case began two years ago when Samsung accused BOE of stealing its OLED technology.

ITC’s Ruling and Timeline

The ITC plans to block BOE’s OLED imports into the US for 14 years and 8 months. This decision still awaits final confirmation in November. Investigators concluded that BOE and seven affiliates violated the US Tariff Act by selling panels based on Samsung’s trade secrets.

Experts believe the ITC will uphold the ban when the final ruling arrives.

Market Impact if Ban Proceeds

A ban would help Samsung regain ground in the OLED market. In recent years, BOE has matched Samsung’s display quality and performance while offering lower prices.

Apple could also feel the impact. BOE currently provides about 22.7% of iPhone OLED panels. If blocked, Apple may need to order more panels from Samsung and LG.

Other companies, including HP and Dell, also use BOE displays in some products. They may face supply shortages if the ruling stands.
