The iPhone 14-series is setting itself to be yet another paradigm shift for the iPhone lineup, and 2022 is looking to be rather excellent for Apple. Apple unveiled the iPhone 14, a larger variation of its standard iPhone. The iPhone 14 Pro Max and the iPhone 14 Pro, which are effectively the same phone in two different sizes, are its crown jewels.

The two premium versions also offer certain new, exclusive features and functionalities this year that aren’t present on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, giving them an advantage over their more cheap counterparts.

In light of this, you may be considering whether to upgrade to the iPhone 14. The answer is primarily based on the phone you now own. Wait if you have a current model, such as an iPhone 13 or 12. However, if your phone is more dated, it may be worthwhile to calculate the benefits of upgrading to a more recent iPhone.

The $799 (£849, AU$1,399) iPhone 14 introduces small upgrades that are desirable but not revolutionary, such as minor camera tweaks, the ability to detect vehicle crashes, and support for satellite-based emergency texting. Ideally, you won’t ever find yourself in either of the latter two situations. The iPhone 14 is also easier to fix than earlier versions because to a redesigned interior architecture that makes it simpler to reach internal components. The “most repairable iPhone in years,” according to iFixit, a website that disassembles tech goods and evaluates how simple they are to fix.

Even though the improvements in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are more significant, you shouldn’t upgrade unless you can get a wonderful trade-in price. The Dynamic Island, which takes the place of the notch, the new A16 Bionic CPU, and the 48-megapixel main camera sensor are among the most intriguing new features Apple has reserved for its Pro lineup. If you prefer larger phones, you might want to hold off on making a choice until Apple introduces the iPhone 14 Plus.

The 6.7-inch $899 iPhone 14 Plus will be available on October 7 if you prefer larger phones. It’s crucial to keep in mind that upgrades to the camera, battery, and performance over a previous iPhone are available on devices other than the iPhone 14.

If you still want more storage, faster performance, and a better camera, the recently reduced $699 iPhone 13 or the smaller $599 13 Mini can be a viable alternative, especially if you are upgrading from a phone that is three years old or older. Since the iPhone 14 line does away with that size in favor of the new $899 iPhone 14 Plus with a 6.7-inch screen, it is also your sole choice if you prefer the smaller Mini with its 5.4-inch screen.
